Using MS Project to indicate WBS item Slippage in a Gannt Chart

Gannt Chart Training Goal:

Teach the way to convey slippage of a WBS item on the next row of the Gannt Chart starting from the current task without updating the start date of the task:

With a Gannt diagram which has baselined previously :

One of the tasks has a forecasted starting date of 10/22 ending on 10/24. Today, 10/27, the tasks has not yet begun.

The completed Gannt should convey:

Baseline starting 10/22 - projected completion 10/24

Re-Forecasted starting 10/27 - completion 10/29.

Instructions:

The first step is to perform schedule maintenance in MS Project so that:

No work which has not been started remains prior to the Status Date

No unfinished work remains with a finish date sooner than the Status Date.

No Actual Start is later than Status Date.

No Actual Finish is later than Status Date.

Without having Project use per cent Completed to execute schedule maintenance, Microsoft Project has no way to know the best way to help you.

This is just several options to generate the desired Gannt view:

View/Tracking Gannt:Project shows a view with the chronological graphics for both baseline and current schedule forecast one after the other.

Select Format/Gannt Chart Wizard:Click Baseline and go on from there.

Tools/Tracking/Update Project:Click the menu option to reschedule incomplete work so that it starts after mm/dd/yyyyLuckily, Microsoft Project provides the status date through the process.

<dc:subject>Gannt Charts</dc:subject>
