Henry L. Gannt, worked as a management consultant and mechanical engineer. Mr. Gannt known for crafting his eponymous easily-viewed planning and control diagram. Gannt are created to indicate projected along with actual project progress. Accepted as a standard project management instrument nowadays, the Gannt diagram was a modernization of world-wide importance in 1920, based on Henry Laurence Gannt's work while ship building during WWI. Gannt charts were used to schedule and monitor projects for construction on a massive scale such as the Eisenhower highway system in 1956 and the Hoover Dam started in 1931.
Henry L. Gannt Biography
Henry Gannt was born in Calvert County, Maryland, USA. He graduated from McDonogh School in 1878 and Johns Hopkins College. After working as a teacher and draftsman, he pursued mechanical engineering. In 1887, he joined Frederick W. Taylor in the scientific management of Midvale Steel and Bethlehem Steel, working together there until 1893. Later in his career as a management consultant, in addition to the Gantt charts, he devised the 'task and bonus' method of wage payment and created methods of monitoring worker efficiency and productivity.
